These days, there is a wide range of bras on offer for women. Indeed, the selection of clothing like this has risen considerably over the years, which is great news for consumers as it means they are more likely to find items that match their needs perfectly.
According to research conducted by Debenhams, at present there is a trend among ladies to seek big bras. This, it claimed, is party a reflection of women’s physiques and partly to do with the fact that many people want to make the most of their assets and use enhancements such as padding to help them along.
Called the History of the Great British Bust, the study charted the history of bras in the UK over the last century and it claimed that there is a link between the country’s economic success and women’s choices when it comes to such underwear.
It found that financial cycles have been reflected by lingerie sizes. So, during the impoverished post-war years, the demand among British women for big bras was far less than it is today.
Meanwhile, technological advances in the 1960s and 70s saw a rising trend of comfy bras.
Then, as the housing market grew during the 1990s, cup sizes began to rise, the department store chain revealed.
Spokesperson for the firm Ed Watson said: “Currently, British bust sizes are holding firm, despite trying times. It is clear that Britain’s history has been marked by a series of booms and busts in bra sizes in the same way that the economy has fluctuated.
“Our figures show that we are currently at a peak in the cycle. Experts are speculating whether bust sizes will continue to climb, or whether there will be a sudden collapse in the trend”
He went on to state: “It is now possible to chart Britain’s economic record merely by keeping ‘abreast’ of the times.”
