First aid kits may seem like they are fairly unimportant for the majority of sports teams. After all, most kits are filled with plasters, antiseptic wipes and the like and anyone involved in a game such as rugby, probably isn’t going to be too bothered about a tiny cut, instead needing far more serious treatment if there ever is a need.
However, sports first aid kits can be extremely important. Should a player sustain even a small injury, having the right items to treat the injury in the correct way could make a huge difference, possibly even ensuring that the injury heals quickly instead of becoming a chronic, recurring problem.
An ice pack, bandages and other such seemingly innocuous items can actually have a huge effect on even the smallest injury and even if players feel they are able to walk it off, by treating it, you are not necessarily looking to relieve pain, but instead looking to make sure that the injury heals in the most effective way.
Sports supports are also going to be a hugely important part of any sports first aid kit. However, they are not useful just after an incident has taken place, but are a good idea for any player who has even the slightest twinge in their muscles or joints, potentially helping to ensure players are not just safe for the match, but actually the season as a whole.
Ignoring the use of sports supports, the correct warm ups and the right first aid can be extremely detrimental not just to individuals, but also to the team as a whole. Having a fully replenished first aid kit will be the first step to ensuring that you can look after your players in the very best way and that small incidents don’t have to become major problems.
