Elizabeth Taylor costume jewellery to go on sale

Many consumers around the world love to purchase and wear costume jewellery and these days they have a huge variety of such items to choose from. A preferred source of these offerings for a considerable number of individuals is the web.

However, later this year some very special pieces of jewellery are to go on sale in New York at auction. On December 13th and 14th, items from the late Elizabeth Taylor are to be placed up for purchase.

The Hollywood star, who passed away in March 2011, was renowned for her love of all things sparkly and glamorous and the sale of her collection is predicted to generate a great deal of interest. The range of items is worth many millions of dollars.

Among the pieces are a 33.19-carat diamond ring and a 16th century pear-shaped pearl from Richard Burton, one of her seven husbands. He bought the La Peregrina in 1969 as a Valentine’s Day gift for her.

Christie’s auction house is the firm responsible for arranging the sale of impressive costume jewellery.

Commenting on the items, the firm’s Rahul Kadakia said: “These are the top jewels that Elizabeth Taylor received from the great loves of her life, Mike Todd and Richard Burton. They’re from moments in life that were very dear to her.”

He added: “Jewellery was a way of life for Elizabeth Taylor. They were her friends. She enjoyed wearing them and it gave her a lot of pleasure because they reminded her of the great moments in her life, the great places in her life.”

Mr Kadakia went on to describe an occasion when Taylor’s third husband film producer Mike Todd gave her a red leather Cartier box as she was sat by a poolside in a rented villa in the south of France. The box contained a ruby necklace, matching earrings and bracelet.

Describing her reaction to the jewellery, he remarked: “She was so, so happy that she jumped into the pool wearing all this jewellery and started doing laps.”

A British-American actress, Taylor started her career early as a child star with MGM and went on to become one of the great actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
